Thank you to everyone who came to visit us for our open weekend. The sun was out, and it was nice to see so many new, and returning faces. We’re especially grateful of Ray, from The History of Wapping Trust who took 16 of us for a walking tour. I certainly learnt a lot – for example, do you know where the oldest lamp post is? And the origin of the word Wapping, meaning Wæppa’s people.
Hope to see some of you for our next Open Weekend on 13/14th July where we’re teaming up with the Wapping Shindig.

14:30 Queen boards Royal Barge. Steam train, Princess Elizabeth, whistles a salute from Chelsea Bridge
14:40 Jubilee Bells mark official start of Pageant
14:45 First vessel passes under Albert Bridge
15:00 Royal Barge joins flotilla, church bells ring out
16:15 HMS President: Queen disembarks at Royal Naval Reserve Unit to watch flotilla pass by
17:30 The last vessel, Symphony, passes Tower Bridge. Pageant ends and boats disperse

Pageant performance at HCM

At 1pm and 7pm on Sunday 3rd June, there will be a performance in the rigging of one of the historic vessels at Hermitage.

A fine-art and circus collaboration, produced by the Cultureship and supported by Hermitage River projects, the performance will be visble from the banks of Wapping at Hermitage Gardens and is free to view by the public. Artists Richard Wilson, Hew Locke, Doug Fishbone, Matt Stokes and Zatorski + Zatorski are amongst those taking part with renowned circus and aerial directors Mitch Mitchelson and Catrin Osborne.

HCM vessel to attend Diamond Jubilee Pageant

We’re looking forward to the Thames Diamond Jubilee Pageant on June 3rd. It will feature 1,000 boats and be watched by over a million spectators, as it travels down the river between Putney and Tower Bridge.

Taking about 90 minutes to pass any given point, the flotilla will be over seven miles long and – including mustering, dispersal and the avenue of sail – will include some 25 miles of Thames river bank and pass under 14 bridges.

Applications from boat-owners were three times oversubscribed, but we’re delighted that HCM’s Maxime will be part of the pageant – the full list of invited boats is here.

We are running a Cafe and Christmas Market on the moorings from Saturday 3rd to Sunday 11th December. We will be open from 10am-4pm and late night on Wednesday until 7pm. (we wont be open on Friday 9th).
